![]() Hi Kari, I'm Mary Jo your designer. I graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Interior Design and have been working in the field ever since. This is your MyDesignGuide custom room design. It includes absolutely everything for your space in 3D, along with products and your own clickable shopping list. Your room is so open and has beautiful wood features- both of which are highly desirable. We love that you have a soft blue wall color to keep the room light and comfortable. However, we agree with you that there is a disconnect between the furniture as well as a lack of order/storage. With our suggestions we are confidant that the space will not only become unified but also really look amazing! My Design Guide DIY step 3 - identify your rooms focal point(s). Clearly the fireplace is one, but also the large window behind the sofa. In fact, you need a focal point (or mini focal point) to give your guest something beautiful to see from each entrypoint in the room. We decided to organize the space by creating two seating areas that were close together to make the space more intimate. You mentioned that you didn't want to replace the furniture you had, so in order to give them a lift, we recommend having the sofa reupholstered in a light, durable, fabric. This small texture fabric will balance out the solid chairs and bring in the accent color: gold. While your furnishings provide a great foundation for a stylish room, the room lacked the color necessary to make it truly complete and interesting. Choose an accent color for the room - one that contrasts with your color scheme and sprinkle it throughout using art and accessories. This moves the eye from point to point in the room - allowing the viewer to enjoy each of your rooms furnishings. Choose 3 colors and follow the 60-30-10 rule you can find on our Design Solutions page You mentioned that you would replace the carpet eventually, so we chose a bamboo wood floor that would lock into place, enabling an easy install. We also picked a simple, elegant rug to ground the room and be the focal point for the choice in colors. By bringing the blue into the rug and adding some tones of browns and golds, it pulls the room together and gives a nice pattern in an otherwise very solid room. |
