The goal of your bedroom design was to create a modern/beachy space using a neutral color palette and your existing surfboard as a piece of art. Your room is small, so the challenge is to maximize the space for storage and create the look and feel you are dreaming of.

We chose a light, but not pale blue color for the walls to set the tone for your modern coastal bedroom. The blue complements the coloring in your surfboard, which becomes a piece of modern art for your bedroom. The blue will also complement the espresso colored furniture and nickel finish hardware that we've selected. The ceiling should be painted white and the trim and bookcases semi gloss white. You might consider painting the back of some of the bookcase shelves a darker shade of the blue of the wall as well. This would be a modern touch and the squares of color would integrate well with the square shapes of the lampshades and on the bedding.

You requested a platform bed, which sits lower to the ground. This could have been a challenge because you currently use the space under your existing bed for storage. We have solved the problem by specifying a brand new set of bedroom furniture, complete with storage drawers built into the bed. The six large drawers positioned below the bed are easy to access and accommodate clothing, or anything you need to store (linens, blankets and magazines, etc.). The nighstand features two more drawers, giving you more space for storage and the dresser six more drawers for storage. The finish of the bedroom set is Expresso, which contrasts nicely with the light paint color, and it features very clean lines. All pieces have brushed nickel hardware which matches your existing hardware throughout the room.

The new bedding adds a natural, modern elegance to your bedroom. The colors in the bedding complement the neutral color palette we discussed. Decorative throw pillows bring added color and texture to your room and make it look finished and cozy. Above the bed, the surfboard creates the illusion of a headboard, providing an interesting piece of artwork to your room and a conversation starter for guests. The bottom of the surfboard should hang 24" above and be centered over the bed. The surfboard is hung with two surfboard wall racks (see products).
