For accents in the space we added a few things that really go a long way. First, we chose a round natural rug to go in the corner by the chair. This will not only define the space but also give you a sense that it separate from the rest of the room to give you that "reading nook". Secondly, we picked a couple of paintings that we feel compliment the fiesta theme of the room. They are small and very colorful which will balance out the solid walls, cabinets and flooring. Then, we picked a slim white shelf to replace the rack you had on the wall to display your plates and to again help distinguish that area. Lastly, we picked out a very fun custom roman shade to replace the wooden shutter on the window. This will bring pattern to that side of the room and be another fun accent color.
You also mentioned lighting. We picked out a fun simple pendant light that will again coordinate with all the other fixtures in the room but give you that extra lighting that you needed.
We know that you have a small kitchen, but we really think that it has so much potential! With this big swap of taking out the cabinets and putting in shelves you will not only gain that clean look you want but also show off your fun fiesta ware. With all the tiny detail and color, the room will not only be a fun place to cook and read but hopefully one that will function well over the long haul. Thank you again for letting us design your room and we hope we can help you with your other rooms too!
